Familiar With Test Routes

Practice on the roads near your nearest test centre, not just generic routes.

Nottingham

Nottingham is one of only a few English cities where learners also need to know how to safely cross tram rails — NET trams run at street level through the city centre, Beeston and out towards Hucknall, and the tracks need crossing close to a right angle, especially when wet.

Derby

Pentagon Island, Derby's tricky multi-lane city-centre roundabout, is also the starting point of the A52 Brian Clough Way — the dual carriageway that runs all the way to Nottingham.

Sutton-in-Ashfield

The Kings Mill roundabout — where Sutton's A38 bypass meets the A617 Mansfield and Ashfield Regeneration Route beside Kings Mill Hospital — is the single biggest lane-discipline test a Sutton-in-Ashfield learner will face before their test.

Ripley

Ripley's old high street through the town centre — since bypassed by the A38 — is still named Nottingham Road, a literal reminder of how directly the A610 corridor ties this Derbyshire market town to the city.

Mansfield

Mansfield's town centre still runs on its early-1970s inner ring road, with a tight one-way gyratory (the "Mansfield Circuit") threaded inside it — a lane-discipline test unlike anywhere else this school covers.
