Practical tip: Because this is a town-centre-heavy test, practising bus lanes, pedestrian crossings and give-way judgement at busy junctions in normal Beeston traffic — not just on quiet estate roads — is time well spent.

Watnall

DVSA pass rate: 702 tests conducted, 343 passes — a pass rate of 48.9%.

Watnall sits northwest of Nottingham and has a noticeably more rural and suburban feel than Colwick or Chilwell. It’s commonly reported by local instructors and route-guide sites to combine village roads and country lanes with faster dual-carriageway stretches such as the A610, plus the usual mix of roundabouts and residential streets.

Practical tip: If most of your lessons have been in slower urban traffic, ask your instructor for some practice at higher-speed dual carriageway driving and rural bends before a Watnall test — the pace and hazards there are a little different.

Prepare well, not just for “the route”

It’s tempting to look up someone else’s account of “the Colwick route” or “the Watnall route” and try to learn it by heart.
