What you will learn
We start with the basics and build up one step at a time, so nothing feels rushed:
- Getting to know the car: seat, mirrors and controls
- Moving off, stopping and steering smoothly
- Junctions, crossroads and roundabouts
- Reading the road, hazards and other traffic
- The manoeuvres examiners can ask for, such as parking and reversing
- Driving on your own, following road signs or a sat nav
Before your first lesson
You need a provisional driving licence to drive on the road, and you can apply for one from 15 years and 9 months old. You can start driving at 17. You will also need to pass your theory test before you can book the practical driving test, so it is worth studying for it while you learn to drive.
Automatic or manual
You can learn in an automatic or a manual car. If you pass in an automatic, your licence covers automatic cars only. Not sure which suits you? Ask us and we will talk you through it.
